Winter Moments

Ashamedly i've never really had a look at flickr.com until recently and I'm really impressed to see so many amazing images.

so i thought i would start showcasing some photography that i like from there.

I've also noticed that in the last few days, that winter has kicked in with the fur coat out winter boots out of the cupboard and now snugly keeping me warm. I decided to use this as inspiration for my searches.

Here are my first 2 favorites.

video styling

I've styled for a small fashion Video before but was really excited to be asked to style for a video that wanted to play around with experimental shots and was going to take place in a really cool location with fun props. As i always find it easier to experiment when there is a layed back atmosphere.

The shoot lived up to the expectation in my head when the model (The lovely Rebecca Davison) and i turned up to find a series 1 land rover accompanied by many years of mud and rust which really worked with the barn location.

Unfortunately i can't show you the video just yet as it is still being edited but here are some stills that i took myself.

The shots are not photeshoped just yet but i'm really happy with the photography as i took them myself :)

Hope you enjoy and let me know your comments

Helping at Emma Bell's fashion show

Here is a pic of me and my housemate Emma trying to adjust one of Emma Bell's dresses at LFW. The dress was entirely made of plastic and metal links which made it hard to fit to the body but looked amazing!
Really enjoyed helping at the show with celebrities such as Jodie Harsh walking down the catwalk and the Big Bro twins Samanda!

Allegra Hicks

Here are some more pictures of my first fashion week. I dressed for Allegra Hicks which was the least stressful and most enjoyable fashion show to dress for due to it being the last one of the week on the friday and clothing that was easy to put on so i didn't have to rush that much. Each dresser gets a model and is in charge of changes and each model MUST look perfect before going onto the stage as you would be in trouble if a bad picture was taken and bad publicity was given. The pictures below are of the model i dressed on style.com and it's safe to say i put everything on correct.

p.s The belt was a nightmare to get on

Fashion week begins...

As the fashion weeks begin i thought i would post some pictures of some fashion weeks i've helped with.

These pictures are from my first ever fashion week and pictures of Backstage Harriets muse fashion show at Amika Night Club.

I did also help backstage at some on/off fashion shows and on the door at the Vogue Italia Party which was very special to meet some amazing people in the industry. Unfortunately i don't have any pictures of this due to cameras being strictly forbidden BUT this week was one of the hardest i had ever had to work with the very late nights and the very early mornings but there is also something very rewarding seeing the model that you dressed on style.com.

not sure if i'm going to help this fashion week due to the work pile mounting up but you never know.....

SECOND ISSUE OF LOVE!!!

THIRST LOVE

I went into my nearest w h smith to buy a magazine. Preferably Dazed and Confused but unexpectedly there was a surprise waiting for me!

The Second issue of love!

Love magazine is edited by the amazing katie Grand who used to edit pop magazine which was one of my favorite mags but she decided to make a new magazine for Conde Nast.

This issue is about youth.

I prefer the second issue as i love the theme of youth as katie grand couldn't explain it any better in her Editors Letter.

"Everyone bats the word passion around so much these days that it has virtually become meaningless. so rather than add to the dirge of repetitive, celebrity driven, messages by numbers, we went looking for ordinary kids who could teach the grown ups a thing."

When looking at the love fan page on facebook though a lady on there made a very good point.

"Found early copies in WHSmith too- still loving the aesthetic of the mag but, seriously, is every issue going to be full of Pixie Geldof? In this one she's credited as a singer/musician- is that what she does this month? If I were one of the many talented individuals you feature who've worked long and hard to make their names in their fields, I'd be pretty annoyed if on the next page there was Miss Geldof being credited as a musician when she has yet to make her name in that field at all. I adored the first issue of Love but am worried its turning into a magazine about famous people's kids..?I realise the theme was youth in this issue, but using someone like Geldof as an example of an intern is pretty ridiculous- most interns do not end up on the pages of the glamorous glossies they work for, they go home to a second job so they can pay their rent."

Which i think is a very good point as interning doesn't mean you're gonna be featured on every page and is very expensive. I feel sorry for the other interns who didn't get a photo shoot with there famous friends and styled by Dolce and Gabanna.

I was also very pleased that they put most of the adverts at the front to make the art direction run smoother.

This was the cover i chose.

Talking about the past...

Talking about the past in my last blog i thought i would show you one of my first photo shoots that i produced in my first year at Uni. It's strange looking back at them now as i think i could of refined it to improve each image but if i thought it was perfect 2 years on this probably would mean that i haven't progressed.

but here is the shoot that we had to do for a mock up of Vogue.

Please enjoy xx

blast from the past!- polly pocket

I really love it when i find things from my childhood around the house unexpectedly. Like today when i was hoovering i found a little polly pocket down the edge of the carpet where it meets the skirting board, i have no idea how it got there as i wasn't even in the house i live in now when i would be young enough to play with polly pockets but it did make me think about how great the polly pocket clock was which i now wish i never threw away but at least i have little polly........ maybe i could use this as inspiration for a shoot....hhmmm! maybe. You'll have to come back and see if  my Miss polly find results in a shoot. I think i like the challenge of turning a childish toy into a styling result that could be related into clothing that older women would want to buy xx

Happy Mondays-festival wear

After a lovely day of coffee and pan-ini's with my mum and nan i realized that with only 5 weeks till i have to go back to uni and hand in 6000 words of my dissertation and my s magazine still not arriving for me to read i really should start my essay! but like most people after only writing 300 words i am easily distracted so i decided to plan my festival wear for v festival which i go to on friday! but not being satisfied with looking at the clothes i could afford here is my dream festival wear...............

Boots-YSL

Necklace- Tatty Devine

Skirt- Top shop (Not exactly expensive but i still love it anyway)

Fashion Magazines

Being a fashion student and training to be a stylist i look at fashion Magazines for inspirations and when looking through my blog i was shocked that i haven't mentioned any fashion magazines considering they are a heavy influence to my work. So i thought i'd just mention a few that have really excited me through my young learning love of fashion.

Nylon magazine that stands for new  york and london was the first fashion magazine i found in my local news agents that wasn't a commercial fashion magazine such as vogue and Harpars Bazaar. To be honest i didn't realise fashion magazines that were aimed at a younger fashion market existed and i was excited about the new designers that they featured and the edgier styling stories. I was also really interested in the underground bands that they reviewed.

Now with my wider knowledge of fashion magazines i find Nylon magazine targeted at a slightly younger audience so i don't tend to read it as much or find it that inspiring but i'll always be fond of it. Another of my favorite Mags is plastique magazine that i love for art direction and there creative use of text.

I do have a confession

I haven't read S magazine yet but my friend had told me about it and described it as pure sex and with this exciting description it got me running home to order the slightly expensive £12.75 magazine.

so when the magazine arrives and i have read cover to cover i will be sure to blog and tell you my thoughts.

state of grace- mario testino

Couture is normally known for old stuffy women with more money than taste...........
but we were oh so wrong. with mario testino's shoot, below for vogue, bringing couture to the reaal fashionista's. Making myself wish i had a few £100,000 in my back pocket to spend on one of these master peices. I think my attraction to these gowns and also this shoot is the pearly pinks and ruffles with my friends knowing i'm a fan of anything romantic and pretty. My favourite shots are the 1st one and last one because of the raw edge of the room contrasting with ths softness of the colours.

Enjoy xxxxxxxx
